Big Walker Mountain Sunset

These photos were taken shortly after we left Big Walker Lookout on October 18, 2017. We drove north on Rt. 52 for a while to see what the next valley was like (mostly farms once you are off the mountain). After a few miles, we turned around and started back to Wytheville and, as we were driving through the mountain forest, we could see a nice sunset forming in the west. Beverly said something about missing the sunset because of the trees and I said I’d show it to her. At Big Walker Lookout, we turned west on Old Mountain Rd. (Rt. 621). A little way down the mountain, the forest mostly thinned out for a short distance and we found a place to park, off the road and started taking pictures.

As we watched and took pictures, the sunset kept getting better and better. The featured image is the one I like best during that session, but there are four I took that I liked so much I am including them all below, as well as one that Beverly took. The featured image is a closeup at the center of Big Walker Mountain Sunset 2. Sunset was at 6:42 PM, this photo was taken at 6:54 PM. Altogether, I took 23 pictures and Beverly took 20. We took these pictures between 6:46 PM and 6:59 PM.
