 This April we visited Boxerwood Nature Center & Woodland Gardens in Lexington, VA. We had never visited this volunteer-mananged informal arboretum before and we enjoyed the variety of plants and spring flowers.

 One afternoon in late December we saw clouds which showed multiple colors which changed as we watched. I have since learned that this formation of colors in clouds, known as irisation, is relatively rare.

 We were passing through Calabash, NC where we saw a man with several large tortoises in a vacant lot. He said they were Sulcata Tortoises (also known as the African Spurred Tortoise) and he was with a tortoise rescue.

 In our neighborhood, there is a spot in the grass between the street and the sidewalk where a wild mushroom occasionally appears. Sometimes it is mowed or cut down and sometimes it just withers away. One day on her way out of the development Beverly noticed that it had returned.  Bryce Canyon National Park is noted for its "hoodoos", which are irregularly shaped columns of rock. Hoodoos exist around the world, but by far the largest concentration is found in Bryce Canyon.
