Sunflowers

By Beverly

I enjoy gardening and especially, growing flowers.  I planted sunflower seeds in one of our garden beds and I was delighted with the results. Not only did we get to watch them grow and enjoy seeing all the pollinators they attracted, the flowers were very photogenic.  They slowly follow the movement of the sun through the day and raise their heads toward the sun. On an overcast day they keep their heads tilted more downward. Other than moving a little with any breeze, they are very cooperative subjects for photographing. It doesn’t get much better than that: combining two hobbies that get me out of the house throughout the growing season and beyond.  An added bonus with sunflowers is that they attract birds that eat their seeds through the Fall and into Winter, offering us bird-watching opportunities and more photo ops.  And if the birds miss any of the seeds, sunflowers will voluntarily grow the next year.

We have received many compliments on this photo and have had note cards printed so others can share this image. Please view our Shop to see these and other note cards.
