Broadway Sunset Reflection

The featured image is a photograph of the reflection of a sunset in the upper windows of a church (Cornerstone Church of Broadway). The story behind this image is the conjunction of two separate stories.

Recently I have been experimenting with PhotoPills, an app for my iPhone to help plan and visualize photographs. My first experiments have involved possible photographs of the moon and during my first attempt last week, Beverly accompanied me part way to my shooting location and wanted to walk the rest of the way. When I finished taking some photos (unsuccessfully) she was excited about a picture she had just taken of the reflection of the late afternoon sun in the upper windows of a church she passed – that photo is included in the Additional Images section below.

This past Saturday we ordered a takeout dinner from a nearby restaurant. About that time we noticed a sunset forming, so when I left to pick up the meal I took my camera in case I had an opportunity to photograph the sunset. As I passed the church Beverly had photographed I noticed the sunset reflection in the upper windows and pulled into the parking lot to take a few photos. The featured photo is the sunset reflection I saw. The Additional Images gallery includes a photo of the sunset itself from the same location, another photo of the whole church with the reflection, the photo of the reflection Beverly originally saw, and what remained of the sunset 11 minutes later as I returned home with our dinner.
