Lower Falls - Letchworth State Park

The Lower Falls of the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park is less imposing and more difficult to access than the Middle and Upper Falls. (Please see Letchworth State Park for an overview of the park and links to other posts about the park.) The Lower Falls is about 70 feet high, roughly 300 feet wide, and faces northeast. The path to the falls from the parking area splits, with one path going to a long stairway with 127 steps that goes down to the top of the fails, while the other leads towards the “easier view” from the upper trail. When we first visited the park in May of 2018, we did not take the more difficult route but the incomplete and sometimes obstructed view of the Lower Falls from the upper path left much to be desired. We visited Letchworth State Park again in August of 2019. This time I went down the long stairway, hoping I could make it up the steps again, while Beverly and her sister remained at the top on the upper trail. There is a nice view looking up the gorge to the Lower Falls from the stairway and at the bottom of the stairway there is a path to the falls.
