We visited this slot canyon near Page AZ in June 2015. It is privately owned, offering tours that are not crowded like the better-known Antelope Canyon.

In the summer of 2015, my daughter, her son, and I spent 18 days visiting National Parks and other scenic attractions in Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. We drove more than 2000 miles and I took more than 2000 photographs.

2018 Philadelphia Flower Show

The Philadelphia Flower Show is the longest-running and largest horticulture showcase in the world. The 2018 theme was “Wonders of Water,” which emphasized the life-sustaining role that water plays in tropical, temperate, and arid landscapes. The image above was a very large exhibit in the entrance foyer by Subaru, who was a major sponsor. There were many small Subaru exhibits throughout the flower show in addition to this one. I remember attending the Philadelphia Flower Show…

This photo of crumbling rock layers was taken in Letchworth State Park in New York. It is near where Wolf Creek flows into the Genesee River toward the southern end of the park, but north of the three water falls.

The Upper Falls of the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park is framed by a railroad bridge just upstream of the falls (more about the bridge below). (Please see Letchworth State Park for an overview of the park.) The Upper Falls is J-shaped, 70 feet high, roughly 300 feet wide, and faces east to northeast. A substantial portion of the falls is nearly vertical. There is a walkway along the western side of the falls that provides…

The Middle Falls of the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park is easily the largest and most spectacular of the three falls. (Please see Letchworth State Park for an overview of the park.) The Middle Falls is 107 feet high, about 285 feet wide, and faces the northeast. The water falls uninterrupted at the right side of the picture, while the remainder is nearly vertical or very steeply terraced. There is a walkway along the north…

Early in May this year, we visited some of Beverly's family in New York. While we were there, Beverly and I visited Letchworth State Park with her brother and his wife. This photo shows a typical view of the Genesee River gorge in the park. Letchworth State Park in western New York, known as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is a scenically magnificent park. The park is roughly 17 miles long, from Portageville at the…

Done Travelin’

Recently, I have been interested in photographing objects I identify as 'Distressed' (as in abandoned or forlorn - see Lonely Schoolhouse and Luxury Vacation Cabin, as examples) and this also fits that description. Early in May this year, we visited some of Beverly's family in New York. While we were there, we saw this abandoned trailer in the woods. As I enjoy doing, we stopped and I took several photos. Our timing was fortunate as…

Penns Creek from Penns View

By Laurie Some time ago, while sorting through a box of old photos, I found a photo of a mountain vista my father had taken. My mother had identified it on the back as "Penns Creek from Penns View - 8/5/39". I have a list of vistas in Pennsylvania that I would like to see sometime, but this wasn't one I had ever heard of. I did some research and based on other photos I…

Sunflowers

By Beverly I enjoy gardening and especially, growing flowers.  I planted sunflower seeds in one of our garden beds and I was delighted with the results. Not only did we get to watch them grow and enjoy seeing all the pollinators they attracted, the flowers were very photogenic.  They slowly follow the movement of the sun through the day and raise their heads toward the sun. On an overcast day they keep their heads tilted…

Raindrops on Lily Pads

In May 2017, Beverly called me outside immediately after a rainstorm to see the water lilies on our fishpond. When I saw the raindrops on the lily pads, I began taking pictures.  As I moved around the pond taking pictures, I realized that in some directions, the rain drops were highlighted by the afternoon sun and this one is the best of those photos. Because of the interest in this photo, we have had note…
