Hoover Dam was built in the 1930s to control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power to the nearby states and Mexico.

The rocks and hills that form the landscape of Joshua Tree has long fascinated visitors to this desert. How did the rocks take on such fantastic shapes? What forces sculpted them?

The Joshua Tree (a member of the lily family) is native to the arid southwestern United States, where it is confined mostly to the Mojave Desert.

Our first opportunity to photograph Sedona's red rock formations came at the Red Rock Visitor Center and Ranger Station south of the Village of Oak Creek.These rock formations are about 2.9 miles away.

Beverly and I spent a week in Arizona and California where we visited Joshua Tree National Park, Salton Sea (CA) area, Palm Springs, CA area, Sedona, AZ, and Phoenix, AZ.

The New River Gorge Bridge is a steel arch bridge that carries US Rt. 19 over the New River Gorge, near Fayetteville, West Virginia. Completed in 1977, it is currently the third highest bridge in the USA. With an arch 1,700 feet long, it originally was the world's longest single-span arch bridge; it is now the world's fourth longest single-span arch bridge.

The Main Overlook at Grandview was a perfect location to photograph the full moon rising over the river when we were there.

Sandstone Falls is the largest waterfalls in the New River, spanning the river where it is 1500 feet wide. Divided by a series of islands, the river drops 10 to 25 feet over the individual falls in the different channels.

The New River Gorge National River in West Virginia features gorgeous scenery and vistas overlooking the river more than 1000 feet below. Another highlight is the magnificent New River Bridge.

Beverly and I visited Niagara Falls in September 2016. I remember visiting Niagara Falls as a child but we only visited the American Falls and I don't remember much except the fast moving water above the falls.
